Tom Cruise fever swept the country this week after he touched down in the capital for the premiere of his new sci-fi action flick Oblivion.
But it seems that the actor is just as taken with the Emerald Isle as it is with him as he told us that he would love to shoot a film here.
“I don’t have any production here as yet but I would love to come to film here, absolutely. I don’t have the film script, I don’t have locations yet but I shot here for Far and Away and it was a lovely experience,” Tom told Her.ie.
Tom spoke about Oblivion and the prospect of filming in Ireland.
And he’s just as keen to combine forces with some of our home-grown acting talent: “There are many (Irish stars) I would like to work with. I’ve worked with a lot of Irish actors from Colin Farrell to Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
“There’s such an enormous talent pool that you have here including filmmakers, cinematographers, directors and writers. I like how this country really supports their artists. It’s important and it makes this place really special.”
Speaking of what makes Ireland special, Tom also admitted that he enjoyed his pint of Guinness earlier in the day: “After I got my heritage I had to go get a pint of Guinness. It was great fun.”
Olga wore green for the occasion.
But he wasn’t the only star at The Savoy last night. Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski and leading lady Olga Kurylenko also walked the red carpet and were just as taken with the old Irish charm.
Former Bond girl Olga, who was wearing a gorgeous green dress for the occasion, also said she would love to film here: “Absolutely, any time, let’s go!”
Perhaps she and Tom, who she described as a “great and generous actor,” could appear onscreen again in the not-too-distant future. We have our fingers crossed!
Oblivion hits cinemas nationwide on April 10th.
