It seems ID cards are not the only things Melissa McCarthy is stealing as the lead in new comedy Identity Thief.
The hilarious Bridesmaids star also looks to be making off with the hearts of cinema fans, as the comedy stole the top spot at the American box office on release.

Due in Irish cinemas this week, Identity Thief debuted in American movie theatres in early February and shot to the top of box office takings. After briefly making way for Bruce Willis in A Good Day To Die Hard, Identity Thief returned to the top spot in its third week of release, leading predicted blockbusters Snitch, and Nicholas Sparks’ tearjerker Safe Haven.

The road movie, starring McCarthy and Horrible Bosses star Jason Bateman, is set to have Irish audiences in stitches on its upcoming release. Bateman plays Sandy Patterson, who travels from Denver to Florida to confront a woman (McCarthy) who has been living it up after stealing his identity.
