Worth the trip to Cork.

The stage production of Louise O'Neill's bestselling novel Asking For It will finally premiere later this year. Adapted by Meadhbh McHugh and Annabelle Comyn, it'll run at the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork from 15 to 23 June, with previews from 11-14 June. The play, like the novel, tells the story of Emma, an unlikeable Cork schoolgirl whose rape at a house party goes horrifically viral after photos of her naked, unconscious body are shared on social media. The story offers a harrowing insight into rape culture in Ireland and the treatment of sexual assault survivors. It was released to huge acclaim in 2015, winning Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards 2015, the honour prize for fiction at the CBI awards 2016 and the American Library Association's Michael L. Printz Honor for excellence in literature written for young adults. It was one of Ireland's best-selling books in 2016 and also made a splash abroad, earning glowing reviews from publications including the Guardian and the New York Times.

"Theatre was my first love," said author Louise O'Neill of her story transitioning to the stage. "I always wanted to be an actress when I was a child. So to see something that I've written be adapted for stage, particularly with a company as prestigious as Landmark – who are behind Enda Walsh's shows – is really exciting."

Tickets for the play are priced at €30 and €15 for student and preview tickets. The play is part of the Everyman Palace Theatre's Spring/ Summer Programme for 2018. Asking For It is due to come to Dublin's Abbey Theatre later in 2018.
