A Coronation Street star has confirmed that actor Katie McGlynn is indeed leaving the soap despite claims that she isn't. Lisa George said this weekend that she was fairly devastated that McGlynn, who plays Sinead Tinker, wouldn't be around to be her on-screen niece for much longer. "I'm devastated!" she revealed to The Sun at this year's British Soap Awards. This comes after a Coronation Street spokesperson denied that the actor was leaving, stating that she still had "a long way to go" with her storyline.

"Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen," they said. "This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers."

McGlynn also disputed the rumours on Twitter, referencing her cervical cancer storyline which has seen Sinead become an integral part of the show this year. "I have not 'quit' Corrie, I am contracted well into this year and am fully committed to our long-running storyline," she said. "We do not know the outcome as of yet, which is how we like it!" A source previously said that McGlynn had quit the soap and that she will "will need replacing urgently." They added: “Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it’s a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear." This came after at least five other Coronation Street stars decided to call quits on the cobbles this year. Among them were Lucy Fallon, Faye Brookes, Connie Hyde, Kym Marsh and Bhavna Limbachia.
