Over the weekend there were reports that Meghan Markle had requested that her name be removed from her son's birth certificate. Meghan Markle has denied reports that she requested her real name be removed from Archie’s birth certificate. A spokesperson for the duchess has spoken out against the claims saying that it was not a "snub" and denied that the change was requested by Meghan. The statement said: “The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials. This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke of Sussex." Meghan also said it was"offensive" to suggest she had wanted to be"nameless" on her child's birth certificate. “To see this UK tabloid and their carnival of so-called ‘experts’ choose to deceptively whip this into a calculated family ‘snub’ and suggest that she would oddly want to be nameless on her child’s birth certificate, or any other legal document, would be laughable were it not offensive,” the statement continued. “There’s a lot going on in the world; let’s focus on that rather than creating clickbait.” On Saturday The Sun newspaper reported that a month after Meghan and Harry's son Archie was born Meghan requested to have her real name taken off his birth certificate and leave it as “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex”.

Archie's birth was born on May 6 2019 and his birth was registered on May 17, 2019. Records show that a month later, on June 6, the mother's name was changed.

The news was hot topic over the weekend as the newspaper claimed this could be seen as “a snub to the Cambridges who have included Kate’s names on her children’s certificates”.
