The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released a statement thanking the hospital for the care they received.
The couple, who welcomed a baby boy yesterday afternoon, said: “We would like to thank the staff at the Lindo Wing and the whole hospital for the tremendous care the three of us have received.
“We know it has been a very busy period for the hospital and we would like to thank everyone – staff, patients and visitors – for their understanding during this time.”
A spokesman for Kensington Palace revealed that mother, son and father are all “doing well” this morning.
People around the world held their breath yesterday after news broke that Kate Middleton had been admitted to hospital in the early stages of labour around six in the morning.
It wasn’t until 4.24pm that the bundle of joy, weighing 8lb 6oz, arrived into the world at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London.
Both Kate and Prince William spent the night in hospital and are expected to leave either this evening or tomorrow morning along with their first child whose name is still unknown.

The royal baby was born in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital yesterday.
