Joan Rivers has refused to apologize for her latest joke which referred to the three women who were held captive for almost a decade in Cleveland, Ohio.
Earlier this week the Fashion Police star was on NBC’s Today show talking about her new reality show which shows her staying in her daughter’s guest room. She said: “Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space”.
Following the comments, the lawyers of Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus (two of the three women who were tortured by Ariel Castro before they escaped from captivity last year) demanded an apology.
However Rivers isn’t planning on saying sorry any time soon. She told Cleveland Newspaper The Plain Dealer: “I’m a comedienne. I know what those girls went through. It was a little, stupid joke.
“There is nothing to apologize for. I made a joke. That’s what I do. Calm down. Calm f**king down. I’m a comedienne. They’re free, so let’s move on”.
The sharp-tongued 80-year-old is also quoted by TMZ as saying: “They got to live rent free for more than a decade... One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They’re okay. I bet you within three years one of them will be on Dancing with the Stars”.
