Teri Hatcher has opened up about the sexual abuse she suffered as a child during a powerful speech at a recent United Nations event.
The actress, best known for starring in drama series
Desperate Housewives, made the address at an event commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
She spoke of how her uncle Richard Hayes Stone abused her when she was a child and what made her decide to break her silence years later.

It was her deposition, which she chose to disclose after learning about another victim, that helped to put Stone away for 14 years.
This isn’t the first time that Teri has told her story. She spoke about her experience during an interview in 2006 and is an active campaigner against abuse.
