Her meets influencer and author Roz Purcell

In an interview with Her.ie, Roz Purcell opens up about the joy of being in the now, her favourite places in Ireland, and what she'd tell her 20-something-year-old self.

Roz on the joy of travelling around Ireland

Speaking about her love for Ireland, the creator said travelling around our island gives her so much joy. She said we often take for granted how small Ireland is.

We are only ever a few hours' drive away from discovering a beautiful new place.

"If I have a day off I could drive over to Clare and spend three-quarters of the day there and still be able to go home to my own bed by night.

"There are so many parts of Ireland that are still untouched and they make you feel like you're completely switched off.

Heading somewhere for a daycation can help you step away from reality, as well as from civilisation.

"I get such a buzz out of seeing new places but you don't feel wrecked after exploring in Ireland. It is rejuvenating, no matter where you go," Roz shared.

The best trip she's ever been on in Ireland

There's no doubt Roz has visited nearly every corner of the Emerald Isle, but there's one trip that really stood out to her and it actually took place during the pandemic.

Roz explained that she had been stuck in one place for so long but when restrictions eased, she and now-fiancé Zach headed on a trip along the Wild Atlantic Way.

"We did a week along the Wild Atlantic Way together. We headed to Clare and all the way up to Sligo. I think everyone started to appreciate Ireland a lot more that year. That was the holiday, of all my trips, that stood out for me because it was just so incredible to be able to go and do things again. We saw Ireland at its best."

"I would go on that trip a million times over because there's just so much to experience. There are so many hidden gems in there. I wish everyone could experience that side of Ireland," Roz gushed.

Roz Purcell on the importance of living in the moment

Roz is recently engaged but has no plans on walking down the aisle just yet. She explained that she just wants to focus on the now and embrace the joy of being engaged before jumping to the next milestone.

"In my twenties, I always felt like I was in such a rush. I thought I should be getting engaged at a certain age or have a house by that age. But now that I'm in my thirties I'm going to actually enjoy these things and slow life down.

"I'm really enjoying being engaged, I'm not going to rush getting married because I feel like as women we're told to concentrate on certain things like having kids and getting married, but I want to enjoy the now."

On the advice she'd give her 20-something self

Speaking candidly about her eating disorder, Roz said she wishes her younger self knew the number on the scales doesn't define who she is.

"People aren't going to like you less or more based on your weight. Having an eating disorder held me back from traveling a lot because I was really scared to leave my routine. I wish I could've helped her get help quicker than she did."

Roz added: "The older I get the more comfortable I get with standing my ground and being direct. When you get to your thirties everyone is more comfortable with themselves. I wish I felt free to do that sooner."

Talking to Roz Purcell was a real tonic and her appreciation for being in the moment rather than jumping ten steps ahead is a breath of fresh air.
