Princess Beatrice has cancelled her wedding due to coronavirus. The royal was due to marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on May 29 in London's St James's Palace but her plans have been put on hold due to the lockdown restrictions currently in place in the UK. A spokesperson for the couple confirmed the cancellation this week. “There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding," they told PEOPLE magazine. "They aren’t even thinking about their wedding at this time. There will come a time to rearrange, but that’s not yet." This comes after speculation that Beatrice was planning to host an even bigger wedding next year to "cheer up" the UK. Reports had suggested that the couple would cancel their reception, which was due to take place in the grounds of Buckingham Palace, and simply have a small wedding ceremony instead. They have, however, decided to postpone the entire event. Beatrice and 37-year-old Edoardo became engaged last September during a break in Italy. "We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together, and can't wait to be married," they said. "We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness." Princess Beatrice is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. Following news of the engagement, the pair said that they were "delighted" to welcome Edoardo into the family. "We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and a loyal young man," they said. "We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future." Prince Andrew stepped back from his royal duties last November following allegations made against him in the  Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking scandal. The move was described as a "personal decision." "I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein," he said at the time. "His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure. "I can only hope that, in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives."
