Phillip Schofield is reportedly holding a bedside vigil after his 'seriously ill' mother was hospitalised.
The broadcaster's 87-year-old mum is being treated for an unknown but serious condition at a hospital in Cornwall.
A source told The Sun that the presenter is devastated and extremely worried about his elderly mum.
"Given the stress Phillip Schofield has been through in recent weeks, this couldn’t have come at a worse time for the family," they said.
"Given that his mother was the woman Phillip turned to in his hour of need, her illness is a particularly cruel twist of fate."
The source said Schofield has an incredibly special bond with his mother and seeing this happen to her has been incredibly tough on him.
"He adores his mother," the source said.
"The whole family is trying to remain hopeful and keep faith that Pat will make a full recovery."
Schofield fled to Cornwall following the scandal surrounding him and his affair with a young employee at ITV.
The broadcaster stepped down from presenting This Morning last month. He then cut ties with ITV after he confessed to lying about his relationship with a staff member.
