Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has told the court that the allegations against him have left him “devastated.”
The actor, who was speaking during the fourth day of his trial at Manchester Crown Court yesterday, reportedly said: “I’m devastated.
“I am lost. I don’t know where this has come from. It has left such a hole in my life. I am like a lost soul.”
Le Vell, who is being charged under his real name Michael Turner, is accused of 12 charges altogether including five counts of rape.
When asked about the rape allegations he replied: “I promise you, never in a million years would I do anything like that ever.”
He said that the alleged victim had a “tendency to lie” before adding: “I think it was one of those lies that just escalated and she couldn’t stop it.”
The court also heard a number of police interviews with the soap star following his arrest. In one he described the claims against him as “life changing” and something that would cost him his job.
He also told police that the alleged victim, whose identity is being kept a secret, was a “silly girl” and “seriously deluded.”
Le Vell, who did admit to the court that he was an alcoholic, denies all of the charges which are said to have taken place between September 2002 and September 2010.
Earlier this week the alleged victim told the court that Le Vell had raped her while she clutched a teddy bear.
