The mum of Paul Mescal has been sharing health updates since her diagnosis in 2022

The Oscar nominee's mum was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2022 but has recently opened up about her diagnosis in a hopeful post.

Dearbhla has remained gracious, positive, and grateful throughout this harrowing experience and it's something we admire her for.

Being diagnosed with cancer is something we can't even begin to wrap our heads around. Hearing that news from your doctor changes your life forever, but Dearbhla has reminded us of the power of staying hopeful in the darkest of times.

She recently told her followers on Instagram that things are improving for her

She has been receiving treatment for her cancer and confirmed she is starting to feel better.

"It’s been a moment. 365 days of moments to be exact. This day last year I came home from the most incredible Berkitt Ward at St James’ Hospital following my stem cell transplant.

"I continue on my journey with the amazing team in Unit 6 at The Beacon Hospital. I am blessed beyond words," the mum shared.

Dearbhla said she "cannot believe" how far she has come since her initial diagnosis.

She expressed her immense gratitude to all the healthcare workers caring for her and said she feels excited about the future.

"I cannot believe where I am, where I’ve been & most excitingly where I am going. My immune system is on the up & my energy is climbing. I am so thankful to all those who mind, hold, love & care for me. You are my forever people. Now with gratitude, hope, loads of joy & a sprinkling of courage let’s find out what's next?"

We all spend so much time fretting about the most mundane things. We complain about minor inconveniences and stress about stuff that truly doesn't matter. Seeing how gracious Dearbhla Mescal has been through such a distressing time has helped us realise that we need to be more grateful for what we have, and to invest more time in being hopeful.
