LeAnn Rimes is "tired of hiding" her Psoriasis.
The singer recently opened up about her skin condition in an essay for
Glamour Magazine in which she talks openly about her struggles. She also posed naked for the piece, showing off the marks on her skin, caused by the condition.
The Coyote Ugly star has spoken about her painful skin condition before, but she has never shown the extent of it.
Rimes' essay begins: "I was only two years old when I was diagnosed with psoriasis. By the time I was six, about 80% of my body was covered in painful red spots—everything but my hands, feet, and face."
"I now feel like I’m at a point in my life where I just want to break out of that cage," she continues.
"We’re at a moment in time right now when we’re all being stripped of everything we thought we needed—and now we can see how worthy and good enough we are without all of the bullshit.
"We’re worthy without the makeup and the artifice. We’re worthy of love without having to work for it. And that’s why I’m tired of hiding."
LeAnn posted a picture to Instagram announcing the piece, with the caption: "So much of my journey, both personally and within my creations, my new chant record and podcast coming out soon, has been excavating pieces that I’ve been hiding and bringing them to the light."
She alludes to coming to terms with all the pieces of herself, writing: "It’s been and still is a journey of allowing them out and welcoming and reintegrating those fragments back into wholeness."
Most people know LeAnn for her starring role in Coyote Ugly, which led to an amazing music career. "Music has been my gift, and why I’m here," she says. "But I want to give a voice to these other pieces of me."
By being open and speaking about Psoriasis, LeAnn says she wants to "give a voice to what so many other people are going through.
"This is finally my time to be unabashedly honest about what psoriasis is and what it looks like."
