Kate Middleton could be making history in the royal family as she's been tipped to take over a new role. After Prince Andrew was recently stripped of his HRH title, military and charitable affiliations, Kate might be the one to take over from him. New reports are claiming that the Duchess of Cambridge is in the running to take over as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards after Andrew's titles were taken from him. Andrew is currently facing a civil sexual assault trial in the States, with Virginia Giuffre suing the Prince for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager, allegations he has so far denied. A senior source in the Grenadier Guards told The Sunday Times: "From straw polling through the ranks, they would all love it to be Kate. We all admire the way she has fitted in and behaved, she never seems to put a foot wrong. "Everything she has taken on she really commits to, and we want someone who will really engage with us." A military source also told the publication that the name of the new colonel was meant to be announced on Monday but ended up being delayed. If Kate is given the title it would mean that she would be the first woman appointed to the role in its 366-year history. Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh was in this role before he retired from public life in 2017, and it was then passed on to Prince Andrew. But since Andrew has been accussed of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre, claiming she was assaulted by the royal when she was only 17 years old and the incident occurred in connection with Prince Andrew’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, he was stripped of all titles. The news of who will step into the role is set to be announced this week.
