Glee creator Ryan Murphy has released a promotional image of the tribute episode to Cory Monteith.

Murphy posted a black and white image of Cory Monteith, who played Finn, accompanied by the words ‘First Look’ to his Twitter account.

The episode is set to air on 10 October on US network FOX and promises to be a heartbreakingly sad watch.

“You will cry from beginning to end,” one insider told E! News, while another source said: “I cried as I read it, on every page.”

The hour long episode will take place in Lima, Ohio and will begin with the news of Finn’s death, although no cause will be given.

The remainder will focus on the characters remembering Finn and his girlfriend Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) will appear in the final act.

Murphy also explained why he is not including Finn’s cause of death in the episode, "Basically, what we're doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died."

"The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, 'This episode is about a celebration of that character's life.' That might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way."

Glee star Jane Lynch, who praised the episode as being the 'most beautiful thing' when she read the script, honoured Cory at the Emmy Awards last weekend, calling him a 'beautiful soul.'

"To a generation that loved Cory so, please know that this gifted and wonderful young man was worthy of your love." 

"And if you were lucky enough to know Cory as we did and witnessed first-hand Cory's goofy, breezy sense of humour, his natural instinct for inclusiveness and his unbridled sense of generosity, day in and day out, I promise, you would have loved him even more," Lynch said.
