Aslan singer Christy Dignam has sadly passed away at the age of 63 following a long battle with cancer. The frontman had been diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder cancer, back in 2013. He was brought to Beaumont hospital in July of last year where he spent six months under the care of the haematology and cardiac care team. Aslan was forced to postpone their 3Arena show in Dublin which would have marked their 40th anniversary due to Christy's declining health. Christy had been receiving palliative care from home since January and his death was confirmed on Tuesday by his daughter Kiera. [caption id="attachment_582323" align="alignnone" width="1363"] Credit: Getty[/caption] The singer spoke to Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio 1 earlier this year about the highs and lows of his life. He told Tubridy that he asked for 10 more years when he was first diagnosed, but he wanted more time. He said his cancer diagnosis has helped him see what is important in life. Dignam said spending time with his family has been his main priority. "I’m happy and I get very sad and I get very scared. You know the thing about this diagnosis, anybody with cancer actually, that’s why I used to love listening to Vicki Phelan because when you do get into a particular emotion, you get into it. He continued: "You don’t do it by halves, do you know what I mean? Because everything is so serious." "There’s no, there’s no time for bullshit," he said.
