Leave Britney Alone!

Chris Crocker has spoken out about the framing Britney Spears documentary and about the backlash he received from his viral video 13 years ago. You will remember Chris from the infamous video that went viral in 2007 in which he asked everyone to "leave Britney alone" while tears streamed down his face. Chris has since posted a statement which talked about the video and the subsequent bullying and hate he received after the clip was watched all over the world. He captioned the statement on Instagram: "Me saying Leave Britney Alone was never the issue, though," and goes on to point out the fact that when filmmaker and political activist Michael Moore also defended Spears on Larry King Live "no one batted an eyelash." Chris said that he thinks the reason no one took him seriously was because their reaction to him was "transphobic." "Maybe people reaching out to tell me, 'Chris, you were right,' would feel good, if I knew that people could unpack that the reason no one took me serious was because I was a gender-bending teenager and the reaction to me was transphobic," he wrote. The star, who is now a well-known influencer, said he faced death threats, verbal abuse and physical abuse from people in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. "Not just verbal, but physical attacks were made towards me at gay bars and out in the streets," he said. "By LGBT people who were embarrassed of me because of the way the media made fun of me. Which made them feel I gave them a bad name. "This was during a pre-Drag Race time, before everyone & their mom was saying 'Yass queen!' It was a time of only embracing the HETERONORMATIVE people in media." He ended his statement hoping "Britney gets the freedom she deserves" and "that femme queer people are not tortured in the media when showcasing humanity."
