Is there anything more attractive that a warm smile?
It’s one of the first things we notice when meeting new people for the first time and having your teeth in tip-top condition is paramount when it comes to having confidence in your appearance.
So, it’s important to make dental appointments every six months to make sure everything is in order, and to brush and floss twice daily to take care of your pearly white.
But what if you’ve covered all the basics, but your gnashers are still not quite pearly and white?
Teeth-whitening is big business in Ireland, with clinics popping up all over the country, DIY kits on sale in every pharmacy and ‘whitening’ toothpastes selling at twice the price of ordinary toothpastes.
The latest trend might give you the best of both worlds though, as trained technicians offer a mobile service that can visit your home or office.
Dublin-based Alan Osborne is one man who has started up such a service. Following his training with market leaders Beaming White, Alan decided to make his offer stand out from the crowd by going mobile.

Alan offers a mobile teeth-whitening service in the south Dublin and city centre areas
Offering appointments during the day, as well as evenings and weekends, it means you can plan your appointment to fit around your schedule. Currently, Alan serves Dublin city and south Dublin, whether to your home or office. The only requirements are a comfy chair (for you!), and access to an electrical socket.
For busy professionals or those working from home, it eliminates the travel time usually involved in appointments, and if you’re truly dedicated you can even get some work done during the procedure.
Alan uses a product called Zero B, which is the number one EU compliant whitening gel in Europe. The gel does not contain any peroxide, so it’s important to note that the whole idea is to bring your teeth back to their natural shade – don’t expect those blindingly white and quite fake looking American TV presenter smile.
The treatment is perfectly safe, but is not recommended for use in children under 16 years of age or individuals with gum disease, gingivitis, bleeding or severely receding gums, tooth sensitivity, pregnant or nursing mothers.
There is no pain involved, and each treatment should whiten your teeth between 4 and 10 shades, depending on how stained your own teeth are to begin with.
Teeth-whitening can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Each treatment is 15 minutes long, and one is sufficient for an express treatment and immediate lift, but those who wish to see a more dramatic transformation can undergo three treatments in a row.
Alan’s prices range from €50 for an express treatment minutes up to €130 for a triple treatment.
They say: A mobile service perfect for office workers and stay-at-home parents, with express or full-service treatments depending on time and budget on offer, using top class gels and equipment.
Her thoughts: As busy working ladies, we put Alan’s skills to the test with a visit to our Dublin offices. On a recent Friday morning, Alan set up his work station in an office boardroom and we multi-tasked and chatted while undergoing two back to back treatments. Our reviewer found the treatment was completely painless, fast and effective. Dealing with tea-stained teeth, (as a non-coffee or red wine drinker and a non-smoker, we weren’t doing too badly on the stain front), and after just over half an hour we had our pearly whites back to their natural brightness. There were smiles all round that day…
