Not that we're advising you slap a load of Buckfast on your face. Yes, the key to a gloriously glowing complexion is... sake.
The Japanese rice wine is current cropping up in a host of products - and for good reason too.
Firstly, it's rich in enzymes - enzymes that gently exfoliate your skin by breaking down dead cells and impurities without stripping the surface of vital moisture.
Not only that, kojic acid (which is produced during the fermentation process) acts as an antioxidant that naturally lessens the likes of dark spots, sun-damage, freckles, and discoloration.
Furthermore, it can tackle blemishes and spots: sake has antimicrobial properties that fight acne.
If anti-ageing is more your thing, then sake does that too: the drink's rice oil penetrates deep into the skin, smoothing it and discouraging new wrinkles from forming.
Brands which champion sake include Tatcha, Boscia, and Jozen-Mizunogotoshi Skin Care.
