Mesotherapy uses injections of vitamins, enzymes, hormones, and plant extracts to rejuvenate and tighten skin.

It was developed by Dr Michael Pistor in France in 1952 and was originally used to relieve pain. However, it has become a hugely popular beauty treatment, and trust me when I say it does live up to the hype.

How does mesotherapy work?

Mesotherapy uses fine needles to make a series of injections into the middle layer of your skin.

One of the best things about mesotherapy is the fact that there's no downtime. The positive change in your skin is almost instant, and you don't have to take time out to heal. However, some people may experience slight swelling or pain in the injection sites.

We spoke to Sara from SkinGlow Clinic in Dún Laoghaire about the positive impact mesotherapy can have on your skin.

How often would you recommend Mesotherapy?

If you’re just starting out or want to really tackle dullness, dehydration, or early signs of ageing, it is recommended to do a course of four sessions, spaced about three to four weeks apart. That gives your skin a proper boost and helps build up hydration, smoothness, and firmness over time.

After that? A maintenance treatment every 6 to 8 weeks is perfect to keep your skin topped up and looking fresh, especially if you’re not going down the Botox route.
