If you’ve been trying everything to fade acne or surgical scars with no luck, this might be the simple fix you’ve been looking for.
Dermatologist, Dr. Aamna Adel recently shared her go-to recommendation for smoother, less visible scars and says she wishes more people knew about it.
It’s not a complicated and overpriced routine either, it all comes down to one specific ingredient; silicone.
“So, this is Kelo-Cote Pro Scar Gel,” she said. “If you are somebody that has a scar because you’ve had surgery or because you’ve had acne and you’ve got that raised type of scar, silicone is honestly the ingredient that you should be looking for.”
According to her, silicone isn’t just a hyped up product, it’s actually backed by a lot of research when it comes to its effectiveness at improving scars.
The best part is that it’s really low effort. You can used it as a gel or even as patches, depending on what fits into your routine.
“Basically, what you wanna be doing is using either that gel form or actually you can even get this in patches,” she explained.
All it takes is applying it once a day and sticking with it for a couple of months. “You’re gonna notice that your scar is so much smoother, it’s flatter, it’s less visible,” Dr. Adel said.
And if you’ve been buying random scar cream that promise the sun, moon and stars, she said “honestly some other things on the market just don’t actually work for scars.”
She recommends that people avoid the overzealous promises of some brands and stick with what’s proven by research. “If it’s something like Kelo-Cote scar gel, this will absolutely help improve the appearance of your scars. This is one I definitely recommend.”
