If your hair is anything like mine, winter always leaves it feeling dull, dry and brittle – and I feel like I am forever picking at split ends.

The cold air outside combined with the heated air inside during the winter months can play havoc with hydration levels in both our skin and our hair, and leave it looking and feeling not its best. But if brittle and lacklustre tresses is getting you down these days, we might have come across a seriously genius trick to try. A while back we decided to try slugging – the Korean skincare technique that leaves your complexion deeply hydrated, glowing and plumper than ever – and were instantly impressed at how well it worked. So you can imagine our excitement when we were told that the technique can also be applied to hair – otherwise known as 'hair slugging.' Much like how it works with skin, hair slugging also involves using a heavy and hydrating treatment, in this case, a hair oil, to lock moisture in – and then wrapping your hair up into something to both protect your bedding – and let the treatment penetrate deep into your hair while you sleep. Now, it is important to keep in mind, I think, that you might need to approach this technique differently based on your hair type. For those with very fine hair, it might be too much to apply a heavy oil all the way from the top to the bottom of your hair, and while it is no doubt deeply hydrating, it could also weigh your hair down and make it feel heavy and even greasy – even after you have washed it. In this case, it might be sufficient to just apply the oil to the lengths of your hair, add the mask on top of this, wrap it up into a towel turban (or sock!) and go to sleep. For those with much thicker or curly hair that has a tendency to get frizzy, you could apply the oil throughout the hair, starting at the top and making sure you got everything covered before applying the hair mask and wrapping your hair up into a towel or sock and securing with a bobbin or hair tie. When you wake up the next morning, you simply rinse your hair until you are sure all the product is out, both the oil layer and the mask you added on top.
