There are some makeup trends that NEVER go out of style, and black eyeliner has to be up there with the best of them. Whether you go for subtle definition, or a full on flick in dramatic bold, a good black eyeliner is one of Her.ie’s top five must have products to count among your makeup bag staples.
Together with L’Oréal Paris’ New Superliner Blackbuster Eyeliner, we’re taking a look at some top tips to create the perfect line, and some celebs who are showing how to rock it on the red carpet.

1. Practice makes perfect! If you mess up the first time, don’t sweat. It takes a while to master the flick, but once you do, you’ll never look back.
2. Pen eyeliners can be too dry, which makes it difficult to create a smooth line, but liquid liners can be very runny and set you off with panda eyes before your day even starts. A marker-style gives you the best happy medium, and there’s no need to mess around with brushes.

The stunning Coco Rocha gets a muted look that still packs a punch by using a subtle line on the upper lid, going light on her mascara and pairing with a grey shadow.
3. Go graphic. Thicker pens are easier to use, and create maximum impact. Start with one line right along the lashes for a daytime look, or build up for a more night appropriate look.
4. Start your line at the inner corner of the eye and work outwards. This will make it easier for you to follow through into the perfect flick.

Singer Avril Lavigne rocks her trademark emo style by lashing on the liner on both top and bottom lashes
5. Double up for drama. If you really want to make your eyes the focus of your beauty look, then apply your liner along your bottom lashes too.
6. Lash on to match up. Pair your liner with lashings of your favourite black mascara for eyes that will make you the centre of attention, whatever the occasion.

Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr shows how it’s done, with a perfect line on both top and bottom used to create the perfect smoky eye.
