For years, the links between diet and skin were dismissed as hearsay. GP's always advise people eat a balanced diet, of course, but when it came to treating skin issues, medication was always favoured over nutrition. However, in recent times, dermatologists are really starting to sit up and pay attention to the obvious links between skin disorders and what we are putting in our bodies. In fact, only 20 per cent of how our skin ages is down to genetics, and the rest depends on lifestyle. Dermatologist Dr. Neetu Nirdosh, whose client list includes Kelly Brook and Frieda Pinto revealed to the Daily Mail the foods he swears by and the foods he doesn't touch in order to maintain his skin health. When it comes to eats, he insists you can't beat Oysters. [caption id="attachment_282090" align="alignnone" width="850"] Oysters are a great source of zinc, an essential skin boosting nutrient.[/caption] He revealed: "Oysters are so high in skin-loving zinc they could practically be a skin medicine, eggs and liver are high too." Other foods on his list include fresh beetroot, watermelon, Brazil and walnuts, brown rice, carrots, chicken, eggs and fresh fish. When it comes to foods to avoid, sugar and coffee are the enemy (weeeeh). He also avoids refined carbs and doesn't snack between meals in order to avoid skin unfriendly insulin spikes. We can manage the oysters, but no snacks? We'd rather take a wrinkle or two.
